SAN LUIS POTOSI.- A mother, who was vaccinated against COVID-19 in this city, gave birth to the first baby with antibodies in Mexico.
The woman was treated on March 5, at the Angeles Hospital in San Luis Potosí.
The president of the College of Gynecology and Obstetrics of San Luis Potosí, Heriberto Lizaola Díaz de León, was in charge of receiving the baby who was born with immunity.
“Both the mother and her newborn are healthy, the mother had a normal pregnancy, she never developed COVID symptoms during her pregnancy and neither she nor her baby developed negative reactions during or after the two applications of the Pfizer vaccine, which They were administered at 32 and 37 weeks of pregnancy ”.
The birth occurred 15 days after the application of the second dose of the vaccine and was through a cesarean section without setbacks, said the specialist.
This is the first case in Mexico in which the antibodies were detected by analyzing the peripheral blood seven days after birth; determined that they are defenses produced by the baby itself and not by maternal antibodies.
The baby’s mother is a nutritionist and works in a hospital, where she belongs to the front-line staff, so she was able to receive the vaccine.
