A total of 450 clowns from various cities in Mexico and other countries are in San Luis Potosí to participate in the Latin Clown Carnival.
As every year, hundreds of clowns from around the world gather in San Luis Potosí to undergo various training sessions that will help them improve their performances or even get started in this noble profession. Mario Sánchez, the clown “Relojito” and organizer of the event, reported that this year 450 clowns registered from different cities in Mexico, such as Aguascalientes, Ciudad Juárez, Mérida, and Mexico City, as well as from other countries such as Venezuela, Colombia, and the United States.
Among the activities held during the Latin Clown Carnival are workshops for face painting, group and individual performances, and how to give shows for specific events such as baby showers or bachelorette parties. There were also open events such as comparsas (comparsas) and “vale todo” (anything goes), which took place this Wednesday at the Pasaje Hidalgo and Plaza de Armas squares. There was also a comedy contest at El Muchacho Alegre for beginners, who were judged by renowned YouTubers and comedians.
There was also a “retas” (challenges) competition between urban rappers and clowns in the Plaza del Carmen, where passersby could enjoy the contestants’ wit and quick thinking.
This year, Zerendipia Espectadores participated, offering a free, inclusive performance, organized by clown Boni León, who is autistic. These types of shows are designed to avoid profanity or obscene language.
With this eighth edition of the Latin Clown Carnival, formerly the Clown Auction, an economic benefit is also expected for the city during the four days of activities.
