The San Luis Potosí City Council is working on opening new air routes connecting the capital of San Luis Potosí with McAllen, Texas, and Chicago, Illinois, as part of a strategy to strengthen ties with the migrant community and boost international connectivity. This was announced by Mayor Enrique Galindo Ceballos, who emphasized that both projects are in the process of negotiation and consolidation.
After the San Luis-Atlanta flight was finalized after nearly two years of negotiations, the mayor affirmed that this experience has opened the door to new possibilities. In the case of McAllen, direct discussions have been held with the mayor of that Texas city, as well as with the airline Aeroméxico. The intention is to establish a route that facilitates business, family, and tourist travel between the two cities, given their economic and demographic connections.
Regarding the possible route to Chicago, the main focus is serving the large community of San Luis Potosí residents in that US city, one of the most representative in terms of migration from San Luis Potosí. The municipal administration sees this connection as an opportunity to strengthen social and cultural ties, as well as to promote trade.
The mayor emphasized that, despite the tense climate in the United States due to more restrictive immigration policies, the city of San Luis Potosí continues to invest in collaborative work and the creation of opportunities for its citizens, both abroad and through their possible voluntary return.
Although there are no confirmed dates yet for the start of operations, the city government is maintaining active dialogue with authorities and relevant stakeholders to bring these projects to fruition.
