The state Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) reported that it has detected around 400 gang groups in the capital of San Luis Potosí.
According to the state agency, the gangs are made up of people of all ages, from teenagers and adults, who are generators of violence.
Most of the bands are located in bordering neighborhoods of the Periférico Ring.
One of the fights that characterize them occurred on September 28, 2023 in the Prados de San Vicente Segunda Sección neighborhood, where a man was shot to death by his rivals, who shot him and he fell dead on the sidewalk while his attackers fled.
In this regard, Guzmar Ángel González Castillo, head of the state SSPC, contextualized that, in recent weeks, several homicides were reported, of which two were related to organized crime and the others linked to fights and family differences.
He said that, in collaboration with other institutions, the Secretariat works with neighborhood committees, in order to generate direct communication to intervene urgently before any criminal act.
“From there, the proposal that was made to the governor, who did not authorize it, to restart the weapons exchange campaigns,” said the interviewee.
