According to the first information, “El puntillas” was exercising in the La Milla sports complex, when he was surprised by gunmen

Luis Manuel Lugo Durón, 54 years old, known in the police sphere as “El puntillas”, who was director of the State Investigative Police (today the Ministerial Criminal Investigation Agency) and commissioner of the Municipal Public Security Directorate in this city, was shot to death yesterday morning, while he was exercising at the “La Milla” sports unit in Puerto Peñasco.

The news caused consternation throughout the state and municipal police sector, since he always carried out good work against crime in all the operational bases where he was commissioned.

The last position as a public servant was held in this city during the first three-year term of mayor Santos González Yescas, previously he was heading the ROCAPORTENSE police during the 2012-2015 three-year term of mayor Gerardo Figueroa Zazueta.

In the first investigations, the authorities clarified that the retired commander was surprised by unknown persons who were traveling in a car, from which they surprisingly began to shoot him.

Now, no further information is known about the attack to Lugo Durón, who, after residing in the United States, went to spend a few days in Puerto Peñasco.

Elements of the Criminal Investigation Ministerial Agency are taking charge of the case.

Due to the events, police forces from the three levels of government began strong operations at various points in the port, mainly monitoring all the exits to the Gulf of Santa Clara, Caborca and Sonoyta.

In the Gulf of Santa Clara, the police redoubled their patrols, especially on the highway to Puerto Peñasco, given the possibility that those responsible tries to hide in that town, intercepting all suspicious vehicles for inspection.
