With an expected economic impact of nearly 12 million pesos, the International Wine Festival was presented in the city of San Luis Potosí, an event that seeks to establish itself as a driving force for gastronomic tourism and strengthen the consumption of local products.

According to authorities, this figure would surpass last year’s, when revenues reached approximately 10 million pesos.

The Director of Municipal Tourism, Claudia Peralta, emphasized that one of the main objectives is to encourage the purchase and consumption of wines, mezcals, and other beverages produced in the region, through restaurants and establishments that are already committed to incorporating these brands into their offerings.

She noted that, although there are no vineyards within the city itself, there is production in nearby areas, so the strategy focuses on promoting their sale within the city.

Furthermore, she highlighted the diversification of products, which includes everything from mezcal creams to spirits such as whiskey and gin, which has allowed for a broader range of offerings and attracted more consumers.

Regarding attendance, he stated that the festival typically reaches full capacity, so the current focus is on increasing the number of national and international visitors, with the goal of extending their stay through tour packages that include lodging, transportation, and experiences.

In this regard, he reported that partnerships have been established with hotels, tour operators, guides, and Aeroméxico, the main sponsor for the past four years, to facilitate visitor arrivals and strengthen the promotion of the destination.

The goal is for more than 20 percent of attendees to come from other states or from abroad.

For his part, the director of the International Wine Festival, Alejandro Espinosa Abaroa, announced that the event will be promoted at the upcoming Tianguis Turístico (Tourism Fair) through activities focused on gastronomic tourism, with the aim of positioning San Luis Potosí’s wines at the national level.

He highlighted that, according to data they have collected, up to 70 percent of visitors come to San Luis Potosí motivated by its culinary offerings, which reinforces the importance of this type of event for the destination.
