According to the most recent projections from the State Population Council, the state of San Luis Potosí reached a total population of 3,002,651 inhabitants, confirming the state’s sustained growth as well as the demographic concentration in its metropolitan area.

The head of this organization, Mayra Edith Velázquez Loera, explained to El Sol de San Luis that the population distribution shows significant contrasts between regions, with a marked concentration in the capital and its surrounding area, compared to municipalities with lower population density.

She detailed that “1,522,603 people live in the San Luis Potosí metropolitan area, while the capital city has 994,804 inhabitants, making it the main urban and economic center of the state.”

Meanwhile, the municipality of Villa de Pozos—recently incorporated as a district—projected an approximate population of 208,650 inhabitants for 2025.

In other regions, population dynamics show significant differences. In the Huasteca region, Ciudad Valles has 187,228 inhabitants, consolidating its position as the main population center in that region; while in the Media region, the municipality of Rioverde has 101,884 inhabitants, with moderate growth compared to the capital.

In contrast, “Armadillo de los Infante remains the municipality with the fewest inhabitants in the state,” reflecting the population dispersion that still prevails in some areas of San Luis Potosí.

The state official emphasized that these projections allow for a better understanding of the differentiated needs of each region, “while also serving as a basis for planning public policies aimed at serving the various sectors of the population.”

Finally, Velázquez Loera assured that the agency under her charge is constantly monitoring demographic trends in the state, “with the purpose of providing updated information that contributes to decision-making regarding social development, land-use planning, and service provision.”
