Suicide rate drops in SLP and leaves the ‘top ten’

In the last year, San Luis Potosí registered a 13 percent decrease in the commission of suicides among its population, according to information from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).

Likewise, the rate of deaths by suicide per 100 thousand inhabitants decreased from 9.4 to 8.5 deaths, that is, a decrease of 0.9 deaths, thus leaving the ‘Top ten’ of suicide rates.

When reporting the compilation of the Registered Death Statistics (EDR), the Inegi specifies that in 2022, 281 people died for that reason and the following year it decreased to 245 victims.

That is, in 2023, the state of San Luis Potosí registered 36 fewer suicidal people, equivalent to a percentage reduction of 13 percent.

Last year, he warned that at the national level the main causes of suicide were injuries from hanging, strangulation or suffocation, with 85.2 percent, and firearms, with 5.4 percent.

The groups from 15 to 24 years and from 25 to 34 concentrated the highest percentage of suicides, with 24.4 and 28.1%, respectively.
