National Guard confronts San Luis residents for robbery of washing machines

Federal Highway 57, on the stretch that connects Matehuala with San Luis Potosí, became the scene of a tense confrontation between National Guard agents and a group of people from the El Huizache community.

The trigger for the confrontation was the massive looting of washing machines that were being transported in a damaged trailer.

Images spread on social media show the moment when the security elements tried to stop the looting, but were outnumbered by the looters.

Some of them, far from being intimidated by the presence of the National Guard, organized the transfer of the appliances in several vans, while others tried to block the intervention of the agents.

The situation quickly escalated when one of the vans was used to try to run over an officer.

Despite the tension of the moment, the agents maintained their position, although they were cornered by the looters, who continued with the theft without apparent fear of being arrested.

So far, no official report has been issued on arrests or seizures in relation to the incident.

However, the incident has raised concerns about road safety and the growing phenomenon of looting following freight transport accidents.

Authorities have not yet detailed the actions they will take in response to these types of situations that put both law enforcement and citizens at risk.
