Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato. –  On January 19, 1926, José Alfredo Jiménez, an artist from the so-called Golden Age of Mexican Arts, was born in Dolores Hidalgo, who would be recognized as “The King of ranchero music,  who left a great musical repertoire for the world to enjoy.

The famous Guanajuato singer-songwriter would turn 95 years old today, he is remembered in the country for his songs that accompany traditions, celebrations, and almost any moment in the lives of Mexicans, who remember a love, heartbreak, an anecdote, or any celebration that can include ranchero music.

“As he had no musical training, his method of composition was to whistle the melodies. Thus he created many of the most endearing songs in Mexican music. Today, on what would be his 95th birthday, we remember José Alfredo Jiménez with great admiration and respect ”, shared the UNAM celebrating the singer-songwriter’s birthday.

It was at the age of 14 when he began to compose his first songs because he was a friend of the guitarist of the Trío Los Rebeldes, however, it was until 1950 that he began to gain popularity thanks to the song “Yo”, which was recorded by Andrés Huesca y sus Costeños, according to information shared by IMAC.

He began a fruitful career that led him to position himself as the most prominent songwriter of the ranchero genre in Mexico; it is noted that the best singers of the time disputed Jose Alfredo’s songs and the right to sing them.

His melodies were performed by Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, Miguel Aceves Mejía, Lola Beltrán, Javier Solís, and the Spanish María Dolores Pradera, among many other great artists of the famous Golden Age in Mexico.
